Born Iben Foixewesfv, ( ebony spear guardian ) he spent his childhood frolicking with wyrmlings. After being old enough to go out into the forest to protect his village from the outside, he was caught wandering alone by a pair of elezen hunters. Thinking the child with rabbit features would sell well, they kidnapped him. Later, the young Viera would be employed by a small noble Ishgardian family as their manservant.He was named Valentinoix by his Lord and Lady. They tried teaching him how to read and be a member of what they deemed to be "civilised society" but Val wasn't very receptive to it, being selectively mute and not quite understanding the Eorzean language. The grudge he felt at being separated from his folk besides. Val did learn how to play the piano from his Lord though, and that was the most he ever bonded with his masters.The Lord and Lady died during a Wyrm attack, and all the other servants eventually left the estate. Soon, the young Viera was made to leave as well, since he was seen as an outsider by the Ishgardians and the estate was to be reused for another, more wealthy family.After wandering through Eorzea for a few decades, he made it to Ala Mhigo, where he met The Crimson Duelists. With a new spelling to his name and purpose, he started fighting with them. X'rhun taught him everything he knew, and they became lovers shortly after -- only to lose everything to Garlean scheming ways. As the crimson duelists were broken apart, Valentin found it best to flee with other refugees before it was too late. This leads him to The Scions, where he became The Warrior of Light for the first time.After the calamity, he lost his memory like many others. Becoming a pirate, crashing in Limsa Lominsa and climbing The Maelstrom ranks seemed to come naturally to him. Soon he became a captain, and his adventures would continue as he found a curious crystal...

LNC: in his village, he was assigned the spear-wielding guardian.

RDM: he learnt the red as one of the OG crimson duelist.

DRK: after a death, a knight spoke to him. he accepted his offer.

BLM: extreme caution is required to not mix up the resource.

RPR: after losing the ability to manipulate aether, this was his last resort.

SGE: during the final days, healers were in high demand.

MCH: returning to ishgard, an old friend welcomed him with a proposal.

BLU: everyone copes in different ways with crushing dispair.

Alisaie is like a daughter to Valentin. They have a playfully competetive relationship and Valentin sees a younger version of himself in her. He respectfully ignores her crush on him.

Alphinaud, too, is like a son to Valentin. Though their relationship is more tame, it's more outwardly affectionate and mutually supportive.

Valentin hasn't forgiven Estinien for leaving after the dragonsong war, though perhaps it is rooted in envy. They can sit in silence together for hours.

Their relationship is tense. Valentin had to suffer the light's influence alone and the fact that Raha didn't explain anything, left him feeling assaulted. Because Valentin can't in good conscience blame young Raha for his older self's mistakes, he moved passed it.

Y'shtola is greatly admired by Valentin. She was his first crush after arriving in Limsa, but he refused her offer to join her and the scions at first. After he did join, their friendship bloomed into one of mutual respect and teasing.

After saving Thancred's life, they ended up connecting. Eventually both lost their most important person and even though Valentin didn't like his treatment of Ryne at first, he understood him when noone did.

They don't get along at all. Ever since Urianger "betrayed" them and later helped Raha cover up his plan on the first, Valentin can't help but feel uneasy around him. It has completely destroyed any sense of trust.

Victor is the other half of Valentin's soul. They are both WOL and are both Azem's shards. Victor is his beacon, his shield and his support. Were it not for him, Valentin would've probably fallen prey to corruption a long time ago.
